Edward Palonek reports that more than 9 billion dollars are unclaimed in New York State. “With rate of recovery nearing 75%, the money from unclaimed accounts could add up to close to 7 billion dollars of economic stimulus” says Palonek, founder of FoundMoney.com
People find money in many places like street corners, old jackets, but few consider the idea of finding money online. The new trend is to search for money online. While there are many websites, one stands out of the crowd. Foundmoney.com has been operating since 1994 where thousands of people have found a small fortune. Recently, someone in New York State has claimed an account worth over 4 million dollars in stocks he did know existed. The top account holders in New York are valued at $6.8 million dollars. There are some millionaires walking the streets and they don’t even know about it.
Government institutions like IRS has unclaimed money and procedure for storing and locating the owners of this money. According to http://www.irs.gov website, the abandoned property is stored according to 9.7.11.4 (05-15-2008). These section states that:
”Abandoned or other unclaimed currency or monetary instruments shall not be deposited into the Treasury Suspense Account. Abandoned or other unclaimed currency or monetary instruments may be deposited into the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Suspense Account until an owner files a proper claim or title vests in the United States.”
Edward comments “Claiming the money from various institutions can be tricky but most are relatively easy”. IRS has a very strict procedure on claiming money as to the 9.7.11.8 section of the “Abandoned Property” manual, which state:
“The procedures relating to claims filed for abandoned or unclaimed property contained in 41 CFR 128–48.502 and 41 CFR 48.503 are similar to the petition for remission or mitigation process covered in IRM 9.7.7, Claims and Petitions”
President Obama has promised massive spending bills to stimulate the economy, perhaps one of the first agenda on the new administration list should be the re-structuring current handing and recovery of unclaimed money. “As in New York, the 9 billion dollars could go a long way to help this State” comments Edward. Currently the handling of unclaimed money by the State and other intuitions allows for a lot of fraud. As a result of various found money scams the states are making it harder for legitimate unclaimed money owners to claim their money. Foundmoney.com has seen all sort of scams and claims of unrealistic fortunes. “Be aware of the imitators who promise a large sum for a small percentage” says Mr. Palonek

There are accounts with more than a million dollars in one account and they did not always contain these high sums of money. Old unclaimed accounts grew over time to the large amounts they hold today. The interest collected on these accounts was added to the principle, resulting in one hundred year old accounts usually holding a very substantial amount of money. This is why we encourage everyone to search for their long lost friends, relatives and associates, even few generations back. If you find an old account, more likely than not, you will be entitled to its contents. Search for your long gone relatives and you could be in for a real surprise. “It is better than winning the lottery” said David A. Roberts from Florida who found over $300,000. The best part of it is s that this money belongs to you! So search today with FoundMoney.com and get your piece of the unclaimed money.
For over 10 years, FoundMoney.com has been the original unclaimed money search engine. With the advent of the technology, you might think that there is one central place to look for unclaimed property and assets, a nation wide database. The fact is that ten years ago no such system existed, with some government departments and authorities treating clients like a thug when you inquired about these accounts. This is why Found Money was born. Today, Found Money is not just a leader in finding these records, but in addition, it assists people who do not receive the full co-operation of the government in obtaining their money.
The following is the response of the Department of Treasury official website in regards to questions about unclaimed property:
“We receive many requests from people inquiring about the possibility that the Federal government is holding unclaimed government funds due to them. There is no government-wide, centralized information service or database from information on unclaimed government assets may be obtained. Each individual Federal agency maintains its own records and would need to research and release that data on a case-by-case basis. The only unclaimed asset information that would be in the possession of the Department of the Treasury would pertain to outstanding Federal government check issue records or outstanding savings bonds, Treasury bills, Treasury notes or Treasury bonds.”

The website further states “For you to determine whether any unclaimed funds are being held by the Federal government, you must determine the type of benefit or payment that could be involved, the date on which the payment was expected, and the manner in which the check should have been drawn.” These are the reasons why FoundMoney has been so successful for over a decade. We have developed a system that searches every database possible. For a small flat fee, you can search any and all databases as many times as you wish. With the addition of our unclaimed money monitor, you can be at ease knowing that when a financial institution looses your money, the Foundmoney monitor will notify you in a timely fashion.
