The federal government is facing a lawsuit over billions in unclaimed bonds that date back to the patriotic fundraising efforts of World War II, leading to a showdown between states who say they should be given the money and a Treasury Department that claims ownership.

The Federal government is trying to keep its holder status of the 16 billion dollar unclaimed bonds. The local states are seeking the money to aid them in the budget shortfall. In other words the local states government could use the unclaimed money that belongs to the rightful owners for their purpose. Here is a short summary of what is going on:

• Over $16 billion in world war bonds are unclaimed
• These bonds where being sold until the late 1980’s
• Bonds have a 40 year maturity
• Chances are your parents or even grandparents bought at least one of these bonds

It is important that these unclaimed bonds remain in the hands of the Federal government so that rightful owners have the opportunity to claim these funds.

It is also important to search for your parents name, grand parents, use a combination of your mother’s maiden name. To search for your money please visit www.foundmoney.com

It's outrageous, is is bad enough of all the bailout, but this is just too much - this money does not belong to the state gov

To check for unclaimed money, please try to be specific in your searches. With so many records sometimes it may take a minute or two to find the money. When a World War II bond was purchased, the name of the purchaser was recorder, as and in many cases the Social Security number was recorded as well. In cases where Social Security was recorded this can be matched to your parents or grand parents, or even their relatives. But majority of the time people do not know their grand parents Social Security number, but they do remember their names, this is why it is so crucial to do a family name search. And yes the Federal government should not give up its status as a holder of these funds. Sixteen billion dollar is no pocket change.

The World War II veterans must be outraged, not that many of them are left,. Now that they are gone the government is trying to take their money, I am amazed at how ridiculous this makes the local states look.

If no one is going to get this money then why not use it?

The point is, this money does not belong to the government. The money does belong to the people who purchased the bonds, their children, relatives and people who are named in wills not local state government body. In the past it has been proven that a small infusion of money never solves an ongoing fiscal problem. If you never fix the underlying issue the problem always comes back. And this money can do good for the people to whom it belongs and there are countless examples of this.

The closest alive relative can claim the money. In your case you should be able to claim the fund right away.

It is unfortunate that the local state governments want to use these unclaimed bond funds to fund their local expenditures. This is also why having an unclaimed money monitor can help you by notifying you about money that becomes unclaimed.
